Frozen section analyses are performed in order to decide
intrasurgically on the dignity of a lesion, which in turn will help the
surgeon to make a decision on the subsequent surgical procedure.
Because of the immediate surgical consequences arising from the results
of the frozen section analysis, clear-cut indications concerning their
demands are mandatory. Dignity assessment (the decision whether a
tumour is benign or malignant) of epithelial tumours (carcinoma) and
checking of the margins (has a malignant tumour been completely
surgically removed) are the domain of frozen section analyses.
Frozen section analyses which have no further influence on the
subsequent surgical procedure are not justified, since, compared to
paraffine histology (“the classical method”), they may lead to poorer
results.

The pathology practice offers frozen section analyses during usual
working hours and by appointment, including transportation of the
frozen material.
To ensure proper, timely transportation, the frozen section analysis
should, if possible, be announced the day before it is to be carried
out. You will find the respective forms on our “download” page. You can
also announce it online here on this web site.
