Histology in its proper sense means the science of tissues.
The most important device for describing tissue and cell structures is
the light microscope. Based on the structural alterations seen
light microscopically, a specialist in pathology can diagnose diseases.
For example, it is possible to distinguish between normal tissue and
tissue with inflammatory alterations, or between benign and malignant
tumours using a light microscope.
Today, more and more refined removal and processing techniques have
made the histomorphological examination an indispensable diagnostic
tool in clinical medicine.
