It is in the best interest of every self-employed worker – which
hopefully for a long time will include doctors who set up their own
practice – to keep standards (the quality) of his own work and that of
his team high as well as to aim for continuous improvement. The ways to
optimize the quality of his service should / must always be
multi-dimensional.
|
|
|
Although administrative defaults, set by the Union of National Health
Doctors, concerning the establishment of a quality management system in
doctors practices mean more bureaucracy, they still may help in
achieving this goal.
However, the quality (excellence) of services offered, especially by
pathologists, is obtained only to a minor extend by regulations
and exact descriptions of the practice workflow. Active
specialist knowledge, experienced staff and experienced diagnosticians
are more decisive. To encourage this knowledge and to promote the
necessary motivation of staff members is one of the two central tasks
of the head of practice.

|
The constantly growing demands of modern medicine on pathologists
require technical equipment in the practices unthought of five years
ago. Only with up-to-date technical equipment (see page “equipment”)
the high demands on the quality of diagnostics in pathology will be
met.
To find space fo this in the practice budget is the second decisive task of the head of practice.
Only the multi-dimensional strategy outlined here, overlapping
companies and functions, will conquer the diagnostical challanges in
pathology now and in future.
